720p Patch?

Post by LOTO »

As you may or may not be aware, many games in the last few years have been modified to run on the original Xbox to output in the (otherwise rarely used) 720p mode. Usually, this requires also installing an extra 64mb worth of RAM chips into your system, but it's possible and pretty cool.

You can find a repository of all patches that have been released by the community here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... 18nRF97rd.

Unfortunately, it seems like nobody's ever cracked open Burnout 3 for this. Has any of the snooping around the game's code that's gone on here unearthed anything that could be useful? I'd love to see the game running at a native 720p on an HDMI modded console.

Have you tried using OgXHD? In my understanding it uses a list of generic patches combined with some kind of heurestics.
Effectively it's a brute force method that may result in glitches and you usually need trial and error to manually narrow down the list of potential resolution-
related values by hand.

There's also an old XBE reader tool called DeXBE.
Back in the day I used these tools to create a 720p patch for Futurama Xbox game, though my memory of that became rather dusty.

Some perhaps-helpful links that saved for future reference:
