I was going to make a post about this video a while back but then the forum went down, so I don't remember everything I was going to say now.
I have generally a great fondness of the Wii U and all that it had to offer at the time. The console was undoubtedly a failure but for us who owned it, there was really a great deal of first-party games that were released for it.
...I'm still miffed they did not release any new Animal Crossing game for the Wii U, but they published Wild World on Virtual Console which was a previously unplayed title for me at the time (later on my copy of AC:WW was sacrificed to the Haxchi gods), and I later got a 3DS with New Leaf anyway...
I kinda fell off once the Switch released and just kept playing on my 3DS, haven't really kept up with Nintendo stuff ever since. I think I just lost interest in game consoles, and after I built my new computer I just prefer emulating everything. But when I look at my Wii U I also think "man it would be really cool to plug it in again sometime". So I'm glad it still gets to live on by the homebrew community.
Well, Vanilla is an unofficial aftermarket project that actually does not need a homebrewed Wii U, but I would still consider it part of that kind of homebrew community! My Gamepad is still intact but a bit used... Dropped it once while playing Splatoon with motion controls but somehow only got a couple scratches.
