What OS are you maining?
Re: What OS are you maining?
It does amuse me that I think I'm very much the kind of person who would love Linux (I've been playing with OpenSuSE and really like it) but yet I still run Windows on my machine.
WSL + HyperV I have to say serves me too damn well.

Re: What OS are you maining?
i used to main windows but i recently made plans to move to linux. still debating whether to use ubuntu, arch, or wait until valve releases steamos 3 as a full desktop os (i’d rather use the official thing over the unofficial ones)
My life is the authentic stereotypical nerd experience.

Re: What OS are you maining?
I've used linux alot in the past and run my "server" on it (in reality, its just a 16 year laptop running ubuntu server) but kept running into problems with installing winamp and itunes.
- I use itunes mainly for my ipod photo and while I should be using rockbox i've had lots of reliablity problems.
- Winamp is my media player, it does have its problems and they are obviously scrapping the bottom of the barrel with there addition of an NFT library, but I find its charm more then makes up for its problems.

Switched to Fedora Linux about a month ago (I credit this forum in part for giving me the encouragement to do so) and honestly I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner.
Honestly it's a breath of fresh air coming from Windows and it suits my workflow much, much better. Not to mention I had no idea that Wine had become so good. If you told me before I'd be running REAPER with a bunch of Windows VSTs there's no way I would've believed you.

Very swell. What hardware are you using? How well does it handle common tasks? I have a Core 2 Duo laptop somewhere, I'd love to try running a freak of nature OS like that.
On the subject of my own OSes and setup:
- My main laptop (a late 2017 MacBook Air), Mac OS 12.7.3.
- My hefty Ryzen 7 desktop has a dual booting setup with Void Linux for hax'ing fun, and Windows 10 LTSC for gaming fun.
- I also keep an old Thinkpad running Debian for the times I need Linux in a hurry.

Lovely setup! However, it is recommended that you directly upload the image here due to concerns about link rots. I've uploaded the file here so you don't have to but be mindful about it next time.ReleaseTheGeese wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 10:42 pm Very swell. What hardware are you using? Re: What OS are you maining?
I am now staying at good old Arch Linux with occasional booting to LTSB 2019 for dealing with Windows-sensitive softwares I would love to jump back to FreeBSD when I can afford my own desktop PC...

Re: What OS are you maining?
Update: I finally sold my HP gaming laptop and downgraded to a Dell Latitude E5470 for Windows 7. I also got a Lenovo B470e that I managed to install Windows XP x64 on it.
