How to make a linux distro without cubic

So I've been wanting to make a linux distro (preferably based on debian or ubuntu) but every tutorial tells me to use cubic. The thing is, I hate using cubic because all of my commands fail because of some dpkg error and there is barely any customization that I can do to truly make it my linux distro. Instead of trying to fix cubic I've just decided I don't want to use the software at all but as I said earlier, every tutorial on google or youtube tells me to use cubic. Is there any other software I could use to make a preferably debian or ubuntu based linux distro with maybe a more graphical UI with more customization options? I want to change things such as the theme and background while also being able to add custom software and maybe even be able to change the desktop environment. If anyone knows any software that can help me achieve this or maybe even a youtube tutorial going over how to do it in like file explorer then please reply to this thread.

Linux From Scratch might just be what you want (I think)...

I dont think Linux From Scratch will work out too well since I want software with more of a user interface and also I'm horrible at doing anything related to linux.

Wouldn't just regular Debian already fulfill what you're looking for? I think making your own distro outright is excessive when Debian can already do what you're looking for.
