hii!! i found a guide online that would let you softmod a og xbox by taking out the ide hard drive from the xbox while displaying an error message and putting it in a computer with a ide cable to then modify, but when i open xplorer360 it says it couldnt detect a fatx drive :/ i dont wanna buy any games and usb dongles and junk pls help !!!!

What you're thinking of is called the "hotswap" method. It's very possible, but can also be very temperamental because IDE was never designed to be hotswapped.
I recommend following this page on consolemods.org and just staying persistent. It could take as long as an hour to get a successful hotswap.

Honestly, the Rocky5 method is so cheap and easy these days.
USB Drive, adapter cable and a copy of Splinter cell shouldn't cost you more than $20-30.

Step 1 open the console
Step 2 put it in the oven
Step 3 done!
Just kidding, try the save file method, its the easiest and quickest from what i remember
