Re: VirGL for old versions of Mac OS X?
While I can definitely say this'd be incredibly incredibly hot and cool and also based I do wonder how possible it'd be. I'm far from an expert on how macOS handles GPUs but one thing I do know is it changes quite a lot between versions of the operating system, there's a reason Nvidia's Web Drivers ...

Re: Figuring out Mac OS X 10.4-10.6
One of the threads linked above theorizes that, since OpenCL was introduced in 10.6, the issue is ATIRadeonX2000 and/or Mac OS trying to initialize OpenCL for cards that don't support it. This doesn't sound implausible , however I've opened ATIRadeonX2000 in Ghidra and have found nothing to confirm...

Re: Figuring out Mac OS X 10.4-10.6
Figured I'd throw in my own testing here given we've both been trying to work this one out. My card is an ATI Radeon HD 2600XT. A card that was available for Mac Pros . Importantly this is not to be confused with the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600XT which shipped in some iMacs . Naturally much like Mat...

Re: Obscenely Overpriced Vintage Electronics
Yeah no as semi-rare as G4 cubes are, and as much as this mod has completely ruined any and all value it had, the execution is pretty damn nice so I'm not complaining
(I say this, do we actually know if Cubes are rare? Or if they're just perceived as rare and therefore expensive...)

Re: What are you working on?
I can't follow this comparison, because the thread owner mentioned something about understanding the engine and because she wrote about C# and Windows, I just thought she is limited to Microsofts World. And if the limitation is gone, it can be an eye opener, because Windows can often just hinder yo...

Re: Obscenely Overpriced Vintage Electronics
Controversial/offtopic opinion time Looking back, the iBook G3/G4 were probably the most boring of the early 2000s Apple designs. I don't know what it is, but they just feel really bland and uninspired, even compared to similar looking designs like the iMac G5. the 14 inch, sure, the 12 inch is ado...

Re: Running real Windows 8 apps... in Electron?
It's configurable whether any given Electron "WebContents" (like a frame or window) can access node.js APIs. If they can, they have effectively complete control over the machine (including the ability to load JS over https), however typically that's not the default and they have quite a lo...

Re: Running real Windows 8 apps... in Electron?
The Browser The last hurdle is of course, Internet Explorer itself. And this is, unfortunately, where I've had to modify many app files in order to get anywhere. Everything from depending on ActiveX controls, to IE-specific extensions to the web like MSPointerEvent and CSS features like -ms-flex an...

The Shell Note: The shell is currently undergoing a large-ish rewrite for accuracy, so this information may be out of date in future electron_cwn8IKzink.png It wouldn't be Windows 8 without tiles, and while my custom HTML shell may look kinda pretty, it also actually serves a number of important fu...

Re: Running real Windows 8 apps... in Electron?
ms-appx:// Windows 8 apps didn't use any regular protocol like http:// or https:// or even file://. They used a custom protocol named ms-appx:. This protocol has a number of weird quirks but the big one is resources.pri. The protocol is actually relatively well documented , but the documentation no...

Re: Running real Windows 8 apps... in Electron?
The Windows Runtime Apps and websites are not the same thing, no matter how much Google and Mozilla want you to think they are. The trust model, i.e. the things they're allowed to do on the end user's machine, is very different between the two. Users don't want a website being able to access all th...

Running real Windows 8 apps... in Electron?
Windows 8 was a... controversial release for many. As we well know, end users didn't really like the touch oriented interface, but for developers there was a much more interesting conundrum. How were those touch oriented apps going to get made? In previous years, Microsoft had been touting Silverlig...

Re: What are you working on?
C# and Windows Phone? Please don't take this as an insult, but why would you do this? I am really curious, because this is a little bit confusing to me. Windows Phone is cool to me, the underdog platform that never really took off and such. C#? Well it's a language I love but it's also literally th...
