Re: What OS are you maining?

Switched to Fedora Linux about a month ago (I credit this forum in part for giving me the encouragement to do so) and honestly I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner. Honestly it's a breath of fresh air coming from Windows and it suits my workflow much, much better. Not to mention I had no idea ...

Re: How to run Adobe Photoshop 2024 on Wine (Linux)

Massive thumbs up for this guide, I can't help but notice just how ridiculously good Linux is getting on the desktop lately. No doubt that a lot more technically minded people are going to start to make the switch.

Re: What OS are you maining?

It does amuse me that I think I'm very much the kind of person who would love Linux (I've been playing with OpenSuSE and really like it) but yet I still run Windows on my machine.

WSL + HyperV I have to say serves me too damn well.

Re: What OS are you maining?

The application part of my daily workflow is not a problem, as almost everything I use either has a native Linux build, can be compiled under Linux, or can run just fine with a compatibility layer. My main concern is gaming. While Proton, Lutris and Bottles have made lots of excellent strides in th...

Re: Android users what rom are you using

I'm using stock on a OnePlus 9 Pro - works really well for me.

Plan of course when they drop support, assuming I haven't upgraded by then, will probably be to run LineageOS or similar.

The Yakuza series is absolutely amazing and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Re: Android users what rom are you using

I feel like the idea of swapping the ROM has become less popular in recent years as stock ROMs get better and also as many apps (i.e. banking apps) throw a fit if they're on anything other than stock.

Pretty happy with my OnePlus 9 Pro with stock right now.

Legend - possibly reaching a bit but did you ever try any music production software?

I suspect the people telling me in the past that it wouldn't work perhaps hadn't actually tried it.

What emulation frontend / ROM managers do you use?

I've been using LaunchBox + RetroArch for a while, but I'm curious what other people use, especially in terms of cross-platform options.

Anything particularly wonderful for use with a TV?

Re: What consoles do you own?

I've honestly never really been into console gaming, but my girlfriend talked me into buying a PS5 and I actually really like it. There's something wonderful about separating the work I do on my PC from the play I do on my console. That said, I do have a PlayStation 2, an original PlayStation, a Seg...

Re: What OS are you maining?

Most well programmed software generally run better on Linux as far as I can tell. Indeed - I still run Windows though I'll probably switch to Linux sooner or later, but I used to run macOS and something I find amusing is with my current system I've found it consistently benchmarks higher in Linux a...

Re: What IDE's do yall use?

My main source of income is a Ruby on Rails app, so RubyMine. Used VS Code for years but having switched to JetBrains IDEs, honestly, there's a reason people pay for them. If you're working on "larger" projects, especially if they're ones that you make money from, I wholeheartedly recommen...

Re: What is the specs of your pc?

Nothing too exciting:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6800
RAM: 64GB DDR4 @ 3200MHz
Storage: 2 x 1TB NVMe Samsung 970 Evo

I also have a thunderbolt add-in card, because I can't just do a "simple" setup.

Re: What OS are you maining?

Seems like a fine approach. How is the latency? (Also do you know what exact game I was talking about? Just to be sure...) Of course, a certain game where one can wish (after buying said wish with a currency that you can optionally unlock with another currency which you can buy with money) to hopef...

Re: Content Creator Commitment

With the caveat that I'm not in this space and quite frankly I have no interest in getting into it, I would say the following: 1. One of the biggest realisations I've had with YouTube is just how many genuinely high quality content creators there are out there who get shocking low view counts yet ke...

Re: Does Nintendo have any weird obscure software for PC?

Not sure if this counts but the original Pikmin for the GameCube has a whole PC build in the game files that has debug stuff in it. That's actually brilliant - I'll do some digging when I have time. I'd be curious as to why they went through the effort of developing it in the first place - maybe th...

Re: KVM / Audio Interface Passthrough

Not 100% certain about Thunderbolt, I don't have any Thunderbolt devices so I have no personal experience. My interface is USB which is very easy to passthrough, but I think Thunderbolt can probably be passed through as a PCI-e device? There will always be a certain degree of latency in a virtual m...

Re: KVM / Audio Interface Passthrough

Probably should be in the software section - apologies. In my case it is a Thunderbolt card and if memory serves I'm lucky in that I *think* it *should* at least be in its own IOMMU group but I'll need to try again when I have a moment and investigate. I've seen people reporting issues with latency ...

KVM / Audio Interface Passthrough

Just wondered if anyone here has tried passing through an audio interface to a guest in KVM? I've been considering switching to Linux for a while but it'd be really nice if I could say, run a Windows VM with Cubase and connect my interface to it. Not expecting particularly good performance and not p...
